Pro Mai History
Pro Mai (Progressive Martial Art Initiatives) was founded by Mike Aylett, Kevin Hawley and Lee Aylett who between them have over 70 years of experience in Martial Arts. Before Pro Mai was conceived they practised a range of Martial Arts and combat sports including Boxing, Karate, Tae Kwon Do and Judo. But none of these more traditional Martial Arts were truly preparing student's for the reality of Self Defence.
"it was time for a change, time for a Martial Art that gave students an advantage on the street"
In 1990 the 3 founding members decided that it was time for a change, time for a Martial Art that really gave students an advantage on the street and the skills needed for proper self protection. Despite holding very senior positions in other Martial Arts at the time they decided to start a fresh and new Martial Art where personal safety was the priority. Unlike the Martial Arts they had studied in the past Pro Mai would not be constrained by tradition; progression and change were encouraged and the techniques and practises of Pro Mai became more efficient with every passing year. Since its birth in 1990 Pro Mai has built up a base of loyal students and instructors who all share the same vision of providing training that is both enjoyable and totally practical.
